Signups close 31st July and play begins 4th August after captain's assignments.

The Esprit Teams is an open 2-stage event for teams with five to ten members. Up to one third of the team members (including the captain) may be designated as Reserve players.

More information about this event is available on the rules page

Team captains are responsible for signing up their team members. Signups may be edited (players added or deleted) up until the tournament begins.
Team members confirm their signups on MyPage

Stage 1: Played over 1 month

Each team (regardless of the number of team members) will play sixty 11-point matches.

Host Assignments: One player in each match is assigned by the host.
Thirty match assignments are made for each team. These assignments are Away matches for the team. Active (non-reserve) players are assigned to opposing teams in rotation so that the number of Away matches are equally distributed to the opposing teams (to within one) and each player receives the same number of host assignments (to within one).

Once teams receive the host assignments, the captain is responsible for assigning members of his team to play the thirty assigned opponents. These are Home matches for the receiving team. The software will provide initial 'default' assignments based on reverse rotation of the team members. Assignments by the captain are at his discretion with these limitations:

no active (non-reserve) member of a team should play more than twice the number of matches of any active member.

reserve members are limited to play no more matches than any active member in either Stage I or Stage II.

Stage II: Each round will be conducted over 2 weeks.

8 team elimination series - 13 pt matches. Finals 15pt matches.

Each pair of teams will be allocated 20 matches - 10 Home and 10 Away matches.

no active member of a team should play more than three times the number of matches of any other active (non-reserve) member.

Reserve Players: Players may be marked as Reserves on the Captain's signup page. These players do not receive initial assignments and are assigned to Home matches as the Captain sees fit provided the number of matches does not exceed the number of any active (non-reserve) player in either Stage I or Stage II.

Replacement rule: When a player, due to unforseen circumstances is unable to play a match or forced to withdraw, matches may be reallocated to players of approximately equal or lesser ability within the team, subject to the limitations mentioned above.

Appeals committee: Where a team captain disputes the replacement of a player or a decision by the host, an appeals committee will vote on the matter. This committee will be composed of respected players who are non-participants.

Further details are available in the rules

Signups will close 24th July. Host assignments will be posted immediately. Captains will have one week to complete assignments and play will commence on August 1st.

An example: There are 14 teams.

Team 1 has players A, B, C, D and E. Each player will be assigned 6 Away matches by the host.

A is assigned to play against Teams 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
B is assigned to play against Teams 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
C is assigned to play against Teams 14, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
D is assigned to play against Teams 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
E is assigned to play against Teams 13, 14, 2, 3, 4, 5

These are the 30 Away matches for Team 1. These are Home matches for the opposing teams.

The captains of Teams 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 then must decide who in their team will play against Player A from Team 1.
The captains of Teams 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 then must decide who in their team will play against Player B from Team 1.

The rotational assignment continues with Team 2:

Team 2 has players G, H, I, J, K, L, M. Players G and H will be assigned 5 Away matches and players I, J, K, L, M will be assigned 4 matches.

G is assigned to play against Teams 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
H is assigned to play against Teams 11, 12, 13, 14, 1
I is assigned to play against Teams 3, 4, 5, 6
J is assigned to play against Teams 7, 8, 9, 10

and so on.....
